ā PERILOUS TIMES! full of danger or risk;Ā causing danger; perilous; risky; hazardous; unsafe. able or likely to cause physical injury: a dangerous criminal. ā¤ļøIT IS WRITTEN š ā¤ļø2 Timothy 3:1-17 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. ā¤ļø[2] For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, ā¤ļø[3] Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, ā¤ļø[4] Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; [5] Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. [6] For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, ā¤ļø [7] Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. ā¤ļø[8] Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith. [9] But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was. ā¤ļø[10] But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience, ā¤ļø[11] Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me. [12] Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. ā¤ļø[13] But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived. [14] But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them ; ā¤ļø [15] And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. ā¤ļø[16] All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: ā¤ļø[17] That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished o unto all good works. ā¤ļø CONCLUSION NOTES!š 3:1ā4. The last days began with the birth of Christ and will culminate in Christās return to the earth to set up His kingdom. The prediction of perilous times indicates that apostasy will characterize the final days of the church age. š3:5ā9. A form of godliness is mere religion without power or spiritual life. Paul commands Timothy to turn away from these false teachers who prey upon silly women laden with sins, who are especially susceptible to false teachers. šEver learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth condemns not intense study but some esoteric quest for truth apart from Godās Word. Jannes and Jambres, according to Jewish tradition, were the two magicians in Pharaohās court who attempted to duplicate Mosesā miracles (cf. Ex. 7:11; 9:11). š3:14ā17. Continue literally means āremain.ā The things which thou hast learned were his oral instruction in the holy scriptures (the Old Testament, here) by his mother (Eunice) and grandmother (Lois). šInspiration of God (Gr. theopneustos, lit., āGod-breathedā) describes the unique character of Scripture. It is not only written by men, but authored by God. For doctrine means to tell one what to believe. For reproof means to tell one what is wrong. šFor correction means to tell one how to correct wrong. šFor instruction in righteousness means to tell one how to live. Perfect (Gr. artios, āproficient, capableā) is having everything needed to do what God wants. šThroughly furnished means āthoroughly equipped.ā Godās inspired Word, properly used and applied, provides all we need for life and ministry. ā¤ļø GLORY TO GOD
